UK-based pop sensations, Sophie and the Giants, release their latest single, ‘Don’t Ask Me to Change.’ Just in time for summer, the synth-filled anthem is an energetic release for the senses. Sophie’s defiant vocals sparkle and soar over an arrangement of tom-tom drums, augmented backing vocals and a driving bass line.

“I wrote this song at a time when I was at a crossroads and examining my relationships with people. Every time I discovered something new about myself, I’d feel the compulsion to repress it slightly and minimize my true self to avoid being judged or losing people. I wrote ‘Don’t Ask Me To Change’ when I finally decided ‘fuck that’, because if they really loved me I wouldn’t have to make those compromises,” shares Sophie.

For Sophie, the rise to stardom during lockdown has been surreal, to say the least. One moment she was in her flat in Sheffield, England; the next, she was in Italy, performing in an empty coliseum for Power Hits Estate 2020.

“To have had that success with ‘Hypnotized’ during a standstill year has been a blessing for us,” reflects Sophie.

“We also hope it’s given people some positivity during a difficult time, just like it has for us. We are so grateful for all the love we have received and excited for what’s coming next,” she says.

Sophie and the Giants consists of: Sophie (vocals), Chris Hill (drums), Bailey Stapledon (bass), and Toby Holmes (guitar). The band was formed by the talented foursome while they were still attending college. Their music is a raw fusion of collective influences that range from Siouxie to Blondie and Jamie T. They have toured with renowned artists, like Tom Grennan, Yonaka and Reverend and the Makers.

Looking ahead, the band is scheduled to play an exclusive show in September, at London’s Lafayette venue. They have also announced that they will be heading out on a full European tour, in 2022.
