LA-based alt pop group, Prinze George, premiere their latest single ‘Off My Ass,’ on American Songwriter’s Bringing it Backwards podcast.

Although the COVID-19 pandemic may have hit the pause button on the careers of musicians across the world, it hasn’t stopped resourceful artists like Prinze George from creating some of their most inspired work.

Prinze George’s poetic track features rhythmic lyrics that document the emotion-filled journey  vocalist Naomi Almquist embarked on whilst navigating through sudden loss, her move to LA, and the highs and lows of the pandemic. Almquist felt inspired by the humbling words of a friend (“find balance during unstable periods, turn fears into meditations, and remember the earth shouldn’t move you; you should move with it”) and an art installation about the San Andreas Fault.

“‘Off My Ass’ is really the first hug I have ever given myself through my work. I am a deep feeling person and become very angry and explosive when I am hurting. I make mistakes. I don’t know how to lie about how I feel. No matter how awful I’ve been to other people in moments of weakness, I have always been, without a shadow of a doubt, the absolute hardest on myself,” shares Almquist.

Writing Off My Ass’ has taught me how to be wiser, calmer and kinder to myself—which in turn has made me more open and kind to the people around me, because that’s how love works. No matter how significant or insignificant other people decide it is, I will always think of this song as the one that really saved me,” she shares further.

With hometown roots set in Prince George’s County, Maryland, Prinze George was formed by life-long partners, Kenny Grimm (producer) and Naomi Almquist (vocalist). The pair then recruited Isabelle De Leon (drummer) while she was still a student attending college.

The band draws influence from an assortment of genres, including folk, electronica and R&B. Their music features strong harmonics and hits on themes of love, friendship, loss and perseverance—taking their listeners on an expressive, meditative journey.

After the release of their self-titled EP, Prinze George, the band toured with Albert Hammond Jr., in 2015. Adding to their budding reputation, they released their debut album, Illiterate Synth Pop, in 2016 and joined Lewis Del Mar on his North American Tour. Making appearances at impressive festivals like Austin City Limits, Eaux Claires and Firefly, they then released their last EP, Airborne, in 2018.

The multi-faceted band continued to expand their fanbase and break genre barriers by collaborating with some of the industry’s top artists in 2019, including: Carnage, Diplo, G-Eazy and Wiz Khalifa. Their latest EP, Happy Garden, dropped on March 26, 2021, and features singles, ‘Garden in the Sky,’ ‘Taller,’ and ‘Centuries.’
