Mikara’s brand new, self produced single ‘you’re gonna miss me’ is part of an upcoming EP that will be released later this year.

In ‘you’re gonna miss me,’ Mikara reclaims her identity and agency following a breakup with a narcissistic ex. With newfound clarity, she repeatedly asserts herself through the eponymous lyric ‘you’re gonna miss me.’ She sings with tenderness and careful restraint, her soft, velvety voice brimming with all the emotions of a break-up: resentment, grief, regret, bittersweet nostalgia.

The track begins with with Mikara recalling time she spent with her ex: “Laying out / At the beach / Or under trees / When the sky was blue.'' These vignettes establish the relationship as one that was initially enjoyable and loving. However, the cracks and flaws are quickly exposed as Mikara’s nostalgia turns into angry, heartbroken remorse with lyrics like: “I don’t really care / that’s fine / Just hate that we wasted time.” As the song continues, she calls out her ex’s insecure, controlling behavior and realizes how much of herself she surrendered in trying to please them: “I'm not sure / How you’re so cruel / After all / the things that I’ve done for you.”

Mikara accompanies her vulnerable lyrics on acoustic guitar, strumming and fingerpicking a looping riff. She wrote, recorded, and produced ‘you’re gonna miss me’ in her bedroom, transforming diary entries into a song. The simple instrumentation and lo-fi production bring out her earnesty and authenticity.

Mikara shares: “Breaking up with your best friend HURTS. I went through the stages of heartbreak, anger and disappointment. I felt like I was trapped with these feelings, held hostage to a toxic relationship grasping for a sense of normalcy. It took some time but I’m finally free. I’ve started a new chapter and this is my rebirth.”

Recently, Mikara won runner-up in celebrity voice coach Cari Cole’s 2021 Best New Artist Contest with her track “Time to Bloom," a song about self-discovery in the midst of the pandemic. In 2018, she was chosen to represent AAPI artists for the Asian American Music Conference and performed at the flagship Apple store in Union Square. Stay tuned for her debut EP, slated to be released later this year!
