Singer, songwriter, and creative director Alicia Sky (@AliciaSkyOfficial) joins us to share her experiences in the music and entertainment industry. After achieving nearly half a million streams on her YouTube channel and debuting her official cover album titled ‘Covers’ available on all streaming platforms, it’s time for the world to get to know Alicia Sky.
Alicia Sky made a name for herself with renowned Youtube covers coupled with eye catching visuals and is now translating that success and momentum into her own solo musical projects. If you have an ear for pop, EDM, or a combination of the two, then you’ll want to follow Alicia on Spotify ASAP.
Alicia loves making music that her fans not only love, but positively impacts their lives. She says “I love getting those messages that they were impacted in in ways I never imagined. That’s what keeps me going every single day.” Well, that and creating music videos with absolutely stunning visuals!
But Alicia didn’t wake up with nearly 28,000 Instagram followers, being featured on MTV, and opening for Ryan Cabrera. As an independent artist, you have two ways of propelling yourself: time and/or money. Alicia alike the most successful artists are the ones who do both. Back in 2018, she self directed her own music video for the first time, wrote AND recorded 20 original tracks, recorded 10 cover tracks for her recent cover album release 'Covers,' monthly music videos releases, and doing as many photoshoots as she possibly could. All the while Alicia continuously building her brand and her professional network. As a lifelong songstress all the way back from the age of 7, it was only a matter of time before Alicia saw this boost in success.
We asked Alicia what advice she would have given herself back in 2018. She shared my new personal favorite quote “Your network is your net worth.” She added “Relationships are #1 in the music business. Find one good mentor and look no further. Make amazing music and the rest will fall into place. You need honest people to keep it real with you. Lastly, doors are easy to open but staying inside is a whole other thing.”
Alicia Sky draws inspiration from many iconic female singer/songwriters including Lana Del Rey, Taylor Swift, Carly Rae Jepson, Katy Perry, Halsey, Bebe Rexha. For her life inspiration she looks to Kathrin Zenkina aka Manifestation Babe (@manifestationbabe). We asked who her dream collaboration would be and she said it would have to be Max Martin, Zedd, Gryffin, and The Weeknd!
We asked Alicia how 2020 has impacted her music career and what changes she had to make in order to continue thriving as an independent artist. She shared “In the beginning, the quarantine was a huge shock and I didn’t know what to do with myself. But as time went on, I adapted and realized how much happier and more free I felt from not being chained to my fast paced lifestyle. I started making music videos, and songs again and I felt the heaviness of the cloud from my past lifestyle around me dissolve. I honestly feel like I got my soul back. I started throwing myself into creating so much content for social media & reconnecting with my audience again in new ways and I started to love my career all over again.”
Looking into the rest of 2020, Alicia Sky has BIG plans. Following the release of her largely anticipated cover album ‘Covers’ (streaming everywhere), she will be featured on singles from EDM Duo Jakk’d & also chart topping DJ Bander. She even has an album on the way that has been in the works for the last four years! Lastly, to all those booking agents out there, Alicia is dying to go on a tour performing with her artist friends.
